12th May 2009 - NDFA Wins National Fire Service Equality Award
The NDFA has been awarded the 'Leadership Team Award' for its positive and proactive work to tackle discrimination against disabled applicants and employees in the UK Fire and Rescue Service. The committee received the award at the Fire Service Diversity and Equality Awards, held on 12th May at the NEC in Birmingham. Duncan White Chair of the NDFA said,
"I'm so thrilled that the NDFA's hard work has been recognised and praised. By giving us this award, Communities and Local Government (CLG) and the Fire Service family, acknowledge that our expertise on disability equality issues in the Fire Service is of the highest quality, and that our approach to solving issues and developing best practice is a winning formula. I'd like to express my thanks to CLG and the awards selection panel, and to my committee and others who have worked tirelessly to make the NDFA what it is today. I'd also like to thank our expert adviser Michelle Valentine of Disability Forward Ltd. I hope that this award will send a signal to Fire Services that working with us in a positive way will produce good results for the organisation and for disabled people".
